Live music and bars in Austin

This is the category with the most honest name on the site. Austin calls itself the live music capital, and the venues where that happens are overwhelmingly bars, so we count them together: a place is listed if OpenStreetMap tags it as a bar, pub, beer garden or nightclub, or carries the live-music tag. The result is a list of places where you can drink and might hear a band, and the OSM record for each one is one click away if you want to check which.

Two districts carry most of it. East Austin, along East 6th and East 7th, has the largest count; Rainey Street, a few blocks of converted bungalows, has the highest density. The other neighborhoods have a handful each, usually on their main commercial street.

We do not list show calendars, cover charges or which nights have music. The official site link, where mappers recorded one, is the place for that.
