Hyde Park was laid out in the 1890s as a streetcar suburb, which is why the streets are on a tidy grid and the lots are narrow. It sits directly north of the University of Texas campus, and that shows in who lives there: a mix of long-time owners in the older houses and students and staff in the duplexes and small apartment buildings between them.

Duval Street and the blocks around 43rd are the commercial center, and they are small. This is a neighborhood where people walk to coffee. Guadalupe forms the western edge and carries the through traffic; the streets inside the grid are quiet.

Our radius here is about 1.1 km from a centroid near 43rd and Duval. That reaches down toward the northern campus edge and up toward the 45th Street line. North Loop, the next district up, starts a few blocks further north; if a place seems missing, look there.

What is missing from this page

Our pull found no live music and bars, libraries, swimming holes and pools and farmers markets inside the 1.1 km Hyde Park radius. That means none are tagged that way in OpenStreetMap within it, which is a limit of the map data and of our district boundaries; it does not mean none exist.

Each district is defined by a center point and a radius, listed on the editorial policy page, and every place is assigned to the district whose center is nearest. Places near an edge can land on a neighbor's page. The three closest districts to Hyde Park are North Loop, Mueller, Clarksville.
